College Football Is Back, Baby!

August 29, 2012

College football fans, our long wait is over.  After enduring months of the Penn State tragedy, BCS shake-ups, and off-field player shenanigans, the season is finally set to kick-off tomorrow night.  Is this the year the SEC is finally shut out of the BCS title?  Will Matt Barkley’s decision to return to campus pay off for him and the Trojans?  Will Urban Meyer find his magic again in Columbus?  All these questions and more will be answered in the next few months.  Here’s a look at how I see the season playing out.

SEC Champions:  LSU over Georgia in a rematch of last year’s championship game.

Big 12:  Oklahoma will battle through an injury-plagued O-Line to win the new-look Big 12.

Big 10:  Denard Robinson wills Michigan to a mild upset of Wisconsin in the Big 10 Title Game.

Pac-12:  USC over Oregon in an instant classic.

ACC:  Florida State over Virginia Tech.  The Seminoles regain their rightful place amongst the college football elite.

Big East:  Teddy Bridgewater will lead Louisville atop the Big East standings.

BCS National Title:  USC rises from the ashes of their NCAA sanctions to knock off LSU, and end the SEC’s 6-year run of BCS Title dominance.

Rose Bowl:  Oregon vs. Michigan

Orange Bowl:  Florida State vs. Louisville

Fiesta Bowl:  Oklahoma vs. Wisconsin.  However, if Boise State knocks off Michigan State, the Broncos will take on OU in a rematch of their 2007 classic.

Sugar Bowl:  Alabama vs. Texas in a battle of college football blue bloods.

Heisman:  Matt Barkley – QB – USC.  His decision to snub the pros will pay off to the tune of a Heisman and a national title.  I also see Landry Jones of Oklahoma, Montee Ball of Wisconsin, and Denard Robinson of Michigan joining him in NYC.  My longshot pick is Aaron Murray of Georgia.  The ‘Dawgs schedule is as manageable as you can get in the brutal SEC.  If he can get some backfield help to go along with their strong receiving corps, Murray can make a bid for college football’s ultimate individual award.
