College Football Week Five Awards

October 5, 2012

What a wild and exciting weekend in college football.  The offenses put on a dazzling show as record-setting performances permeated the college gridirons.  With a fantastic schedule on tap this weekend, college football is heating up as autumn settles in.

Game of the Week: Texas 41-Oklahoma State 36.  So many choice games to choose from.  WVU-Baylor, Wisconsin-Nebraska, Tennessee-Georgia.  Ultimately, it came down to this Big 12 match-up of border rivals.  Texas RB Joe Bergeron scored a controversial TD in the final minute to pull off the W.  Texas has two huge contests looming with the likes of the Mountaineers and Sooners.

Offensive Player of the Week: Geno Smith – QB – West Virginia.  The numbers are just sickening.  His 45-51 performance, with 656 yards and 8 TD’s, vaulted Smith into the early Heisman lead.  A tough Longhorns’ D awaits him this Saturday in Austin.

Defensive Player of the Week: Mike Mauti – LB – PSU.  The senior linebacker totaled 6 tackles, 2 INT’s, including a 99-yard Pick 6, and combined for a sack in the Nittany Lions dominating win over Illinois.
